Origins
All branches of the Lis family can be traced to the Subcarpathian Mountains of southern Poland, with half of the family coming from Lubcza and its neighboring villages. The Strawiarski family comes from Libusza, which is just south of Lubcza. The Myszak family, on the other hand, originates from Janów Lubelski, a town further to the north, although still in the Subcarpathian region.
Pop-Pop (Thomas Lis) (1944-2022)
Thomas was born in 1944 into the working class neighborhood of Port Richmond in Philadelphia, which is home to a large Polish community. He didn’t stay in Port Richmond though, he was kicked out when he was 18 and joined the marines where he served on the USS Intrepid. After he was discharged from the marines he worked for IBM for 24 years, seeing the rise computers.
