New Year’s Eve, known for grand celebrations in the US, has a different meaning in Poland. which derives from St. Sylvester, a Catholic Pope. Modern Polish celebrations include drinking, fireworks, night markets, and special sweets. Traditional customs like pranks and carp scale for luck are fading. In contrast, my family enjoyed a quieter evening with sushi and TV.
